At St Benedict’s, prayer is an important part of our daily life. As a Catholic faith community, we believe that prayer brings us closer to God and to one another.
Each class has their own dedicated prayer space or reflection area. We have prayer trees, and “sorry” trees in Key Stage 1 to allow the children to express their own prayer intentions. In Key Stage 2 we have a dedicated prayer book, with free access to anyone who wishes to write a prayer or share a prayer request. These are shared in collective worship and the Mini Vinnies share names of anyone they have been asked to pray for at their meetings.
In addition to time and space for personal prayer and reflection, we pray as a community and use our special school prayers to start and end the day:
Morning prayer
Oh my God, I love you,
You are with me night and day,
I want to love you always in all I do and say.
I’ll try to please you Father, bless me through the day,
Amen.
Dinner time prayer
Bless us, O God, as we gather together,
Bless the food You give us today
Bless the hands that made the food,
Bless all your children, O God, we pray
Evening prayer
Oh my God, I come to say,
Thank you for your love today.
Thank you for family and all the friends you give to me.
Guard me in the dark of night and in the morning send your light,
Amen.
We end our prayers with a special intention to St Benedict:
“Saint Benedict….. pray for us.”
We pray these every day and encourage you to do the same at home. Thank you for being an important part of our prayer community, we value and are always grateful for your prayers for our school.
