Reading Books
Monster Phonics books – If your child is reading the Monster Phonics books, their home reading book will be exchanged and assigned by a member of school staff on a Friday. Please ensure their previous reading book is in their bag ready for exchange on Friday.

Reading Bands – Once the phonics scheme has been completed, your child will be assigned a book band and given a book. Please listen to your child read some of this book each night and sign in the Home School Record. When you and your child have completed a book, the children can exchange their books independently, choosing another book in their band.

Library – Class 3 visit the library on a Friday. Library cards are stored at school. Children are free to choose whichever book they like from the school library, but they can only have one at a time, so please return any books ready for exchange on Friday. They can keep the book longer than a week though, if they wish.

It would be lovely if you could share this book with your child, reading it to them or reading it
together. Because it is free choice, this book may be above the level that your child can read
independently – but this isn’t always the case. It’s a chance to widen their reading diet and enjoy books together.

Maths KIRFs (Key Instant Recall Facts)
Each half term we have a maths facts focus. We work on our KIRFS at the beginning of each maths esson. These are our current KIRFs and the ones we covered in Autumn Term. Any practice you can do at home will help.

Y3
Autumn 1 – I can recall all number facts within 20 (eg 6 + 9 = 15, 9 + 6 = 15, 15 – 9 = 6, 15 – 6 = 9)
Autumn 2 – I know the multiplication and division facts for the 3 times table
Spring 1 – I can recall facts about duration of time (eg 60 seconds in a minute, 12 months in a year
etc)
Y4
Autumn 1 – I can say number bonds to 100 (eg 37 + ? = 100)
Autumn 2 – I know the multiplication and division facts for the 6 times table
Spring 1 – I know the multiplication and division facts for the 9 and 11 times tables

Hit the Button is a free online game which helps children practise all their KIRFs
