Computing at St Benedict’s
Intent
Our St Benedict’s curriculum is designed with the intent to maximise the potential of all of our pupils;
intellectually, socially, morally, emotionally and culturally. We take every opportunity to encourage a love for learning within all of our pupils, based around a resilience for learning and achieving
greatness. Most importantly we allow our children to learn in a safe and stimulating environment, where their views are valued.
Our Curriculum intent in computing is to INSPIRE children to independently build knowledge and the skills of computational thinking and individual creativity to understand and change the world. As children are encouraged and progress through the curriculum, they will be able to build resilience for the ever changing technological landscape. They will be expressing and developing their ideas through:
information and communication technology. This nurtures and prepares them for careers in a future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.
Implementation
At St Benedict’s we follow a scheme of work for Computing from the Knowsley City Learning Centre. The computing curriculum at St Benedict’s is carefully planned and structured with skills all mapped out, to ensure that pupils build on secure prior knowledge over a two year rolling programme and that the school’s approaches are informed by current pedagogy.
We ensure that all pupils:
- can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation
- can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems
- can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems
- are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology
Impact
We aim that by the end of Year 6 our children have developed the knowledge and skills of
computational thinking and creativity. They are resilient in an ever changing technological landscape. They can express and develop their ideas using information and communication technology. Our children are prepared to build for future careers as active participants in a digital world.
Teachers complete subject tracking sheets to identify pupils’ progress across the school and ensure smooth transitions throughout the school.
